I am a casual user of my News Reader. When I signed on, the company gives a
free copy of News Rover. It's fine, I can use it.
However, there is no way automatically to turn off the headers from showing.

Can somebody else recommend a better browser in this regard?
Tks.

En wat is het juist wat je met die newsreader wil doen? Verhinderen dat
headers automatisch worden opgehaald?

No, he doesn't want News Rover to *show* the headers.

Try http://www.forteinc.com/agent/index.php

Natively runs on MS Windows. On Linux, Solaris and OpenIndiana it
runs pretty well in wine.

But not free, and I was not very happy with the way Agent handles
character sets (hopefully that has been improved since Agent 6)

Mozilla Thunderbird is my favourite mail/usenet client. It's multi
platform, free, easy to use, and has many plugins. For newsgroups, you
should at least install the Mnenhy plug-in.

There are a lot of other news readers out there, some platform bound.
The Opera browser also offers built in mail and news.
